Every first Saturday of the month is FREE family day at the Walker Art Center. Tommy kept asking me “How will they know we are a family?” Pretty much it is free for everyone, but they have special activities for children. This particular Saturday was Experimental Expressions. It’s focus was on celebrating artists who bend the boundaries of live performance, film, and visual. Before we went to the Walker we decided it was a perfect day for a doughnut run! I did a little research and found YoYo doughnuts. Their specialty doughnut is a Long John, a maple glazed bar with a slice of bacon on top. You betcha we got one! They also have various cereal topping, jelly fillings, and fritters (apple and cherry).

The doughnut shop had a quaint reading corner where we enjoyed a few stories. They had a lot of cute books. We chose two The Doughnut with a Big Heart and Doughnut Chef. Zoë really liked the Doughnut Chef the illustrations were colorful and attractive.
Once we were finished we headed to the Walker. First we checked out one of the children’s activities. It had mirrors, kaleidoscopes, and a scavenger hunt. Zoë loved the mirrors!
After the mirrors we watched a short film. The theatre was simple a white wall with white stadium seating in a little nook behind the entrance. The kids loved running up and down the big steps.

Once the movie was over we enjoyed the art exhibits…
It was a little warm inside so we decided to take a break and check out the garden terrace. Zoë enjoyed exploring the grass and climbing all over the big chairs. She was mesmerized by all of the other children running around and playing. She so badly wishes she could run with them. I am a little thankful she is just pulling up and attempting to take her first steps. She is so close!
It got a little chilly and Zoë was getting hungry so headed back inside. We found a bench in front of B-E-A-U-T-Y.
It was finally time for lunch. We were craving pizza, “planet saving pizza”, off to Galactic Pizza we went! This pizza place has delivery people that dress up as super heros saving one dinner at a time. We had bison sausage pizza and Thai pasta.

It was a pretty out of this world day!

There’s so much to do there! 😀 Wish we had a galactic pizza here!
This reminds me of our early days in Seattle with Kimberley, but more stuff. Maybe just different. We had access to lots of things. Good for you guys, and good for Zoe. I miss you, but I celebrate your adventure. Go you guys!
