Wakey wakey time to get ready for your party!
Zoe got the full treatment a yummy pancake breakfast complete with cinnamon butter. Then she got her hair curled, and accessorized with her party crown.
Tommy and I have discussed birthday celebrations and have come to the conclusion that only a select few years will we throw a “party”. 1 obviously is one of them, but most importantly we wanted to celebrate Zoe’s first year with her family and close friends. One of the challenges of planning Zoe’s party was I was 1,900 miles away from the location, but with a little help and ingenuity it all came together. We had LOTS of helpers! Thank you everyone who helped make Zoe’s birthday party a success. Tommy and I couldn’t have made it happen without ALL of you (Laura, Sami, Collin, Andrew, Hayley, Auntie Ashie, Lauren, Josh, Melinda , Cliff, Justine, Myrna, Jordan and Grandpa O). It was a beautiful day. The weather was perfect, minus a little wind, but that helped me stay cool. Once everything was set up everyone began arriving. Thankfully I made it back in time with the food. Unfortunately I had to finish getting ready….ooops lesson learned, always send Tommy to get the food.
While I was getting ready Laura and Tommy got a few pictures of the set up…

Party Time!! We decided on Mexican food for the party. Zoe LOVES mexican food (beans, tortillas and especially LIMES)! We had a few activities out for party goers to enjoy (coloring, building a paper craft, corn hole and a photo booth). After food and some fun it was time to celebrate the birthday girl!
Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Zoe, Happy birthday to you! Yay! I was so glad that she didn’t cry when everyone was singing. She was a little curious as to what was going on, but once everyone was done singing, she joined in with everyone else and started clapping. A couple of weeks before her party we started practicing blowing out candles. Tommy and I would show her how and then let her try. At first she didn’t know how to blow air out. She finally got the hang of it. Now she likes to blow in our faces. She also figured out how to use her whistles! Maybe she will be a whistler like her grandpa.

The cake was so delicious I loved how it matched perfectly! Thank you Justine! Zoe wasn’t sure what to do at first. But once she got going with that frosting her shirt and pants didn’t stand a chance. Thank you Laura for getting the frosting out of her clothes 😉 After cake Zoe wanted to dive right into her presents and I wasn’t going to stop her…I love opening presents and I think Zoe was bit by the same bug. Boy was Zoe one lucky girl! She got lots of fun toys and a ton of clothes.

Zoe with her new Minnie clips (thank you Tammy!)
Zoe had so much fun seeing all of her friends at her party. Then she fell fast asleep. The end!
Disclaimer: We know some are curious as why it was a “Hairy” Birthday. Tommy came up with the idea to play on words and change “happy” to “hairy” because for the past year, one of the most common comments or compliments we have gotten is “She has so much hair” or “Look at all that hair”. Not a lot of one year olds have this much hair and we thought it was something to celebrate! So we decided to plan a party themed around Zoe’s hair and hair dos.
Also we meant to play a game…Guess how long Zoe’s hair is?? If you want to play feel free to leave a comment below. I will check back in a week to see if anyone guesses correctly.
