4/12/2013 We FINALLY made it to the airport after our original flight had been canceled due to ANOTHER WINTER STORM. After it was all said and done we got about 12-15 inches of snow. I never thought that we would run into this problem in the middle of April, but it happened. The great thing I love about Minnesota and the snow is that they never let it get them down. Right when the snow starts falling there are trucks out dropping ice and streets and freeways are being plowed. So thankfully we were able to reschedule our flight for Friday morning bright and early. The roads were clear enough for us to drive to the airport. Once we got to the airport we realized everyone else rescheduled their flights for today too. It was very crowded with long lines. I was able to check in and drop off Zoe’s car seat. Then we jumped into the ever increasing security line. Lucky for me when I travel solo with a baby people take pity on me. The security lady decided to bump me up to the front of the security line. Once we got through security we were able to grab a quick breakfast and find our gate with plenty of time to spare. To our surprise Delta has embraced technology and set up tablets EVERYWHERE. Zoe and I enjoyed a morning chat at one of the stations. I love how happy she was to be up and going at 5:30 in the morning. Oh and we were able to try out Zoe’s new “leash”. (We have decided to go with the “leash” option because Zoe does not like holding our hands {she’s an independent women and we respect that}, I can’t imagine anyone likes holding their arm over the head for any length of time, and Zoe’s safety is just as important as her independence)

Once we were on the plane it was mimi time for Zoe. She slept the entire flight and woke up just in time for landing. Oh and on top of getting sent to the front of the line. The lady at the desk noticed the flight was not full and moved the person sitting next to us so Zoe could have her own seat. I was thankful because that gave me some room to stretch out while I held Zoe as she slept in my arms. After we landed we made a quick stop at the mall so we could grab some lunch and check out the Disney Store. Auntie Marg wanted to buy Zoe a stuffed toy, but Zoe was not interested in any of the stuffed toys. She opted for a sparkly bouncy ball. After the mall we headed over to see Grams. I was so glad to see her. Zoe on the other hand was a little more shy than I had expected.

After visiting with Grams we decided to head home, it was time for dinner. Auntie Marg had made some turkey soup. We ate and hung out around the dinner table. It was nice to get some quality time in with my family. Zoe of course offered some great entertainment.

The next day we got up and enjoyed the morning. Auntie Marg had gotten Zoe a stash of Disney movies. Zoe chose to watch Mulan. That is one of our favorite Disney movies! It was so much fun to share it with Zoe. I was able to sneak a peek of her while she was enjoying the movie. After the movie we got ready and went outside for some fresh air. Something that I completely took for granted in California. Then we picked up grams for a lunch date at Hibachi to celebrate my birthday. It was so fun to be surrounded by the ladies of my family. I miss this moments a lot!

After Hibachi we ran across the street (literally Maddee and I pushed Grams in her wheelchair across a major intersection) to Target. It has been a long time since I have been to Target with my family. It is always an adventure. We forgot to get a group picture at Hibachi so I decided to capture our groups antics at Target.

After Target we dropped Grams off and headed home. Zoe caught a snooze on the car ride home. I really could watch Zoe sleep all day. She is so precious, drool and all.
We spent the evening cooking in the kitchen. I remember the days my mom and my Auntie Marg would spend afternoons canning blueberry jam and setting off the fire alarm with dinner. Thankfully we didn’t set off the fire alarm. Maddee made some darn good guacamole and Chelsea and I made two different kinds of stuffed bread (buffalo chicken with blue cheese and sausage and spinach). I loved the stuffed bread so much I am going to make it for Tommy this week. Then my Auntie Marg made Strawberry Shortcake! Growing up there were usually nights in the summer when all we ate for dinner was Strawberry Shortcake. These trips I take with Zoe have taken on a whole new meaning. It is a trip down memory lane and traditions that I get to share with her. After dessert we all settled down to watch a movie. The next day we were headed for an adventure in Brooklyn.
