The holiday season always hits me pretty hard. It makes me think a lot about our life and our family. Lately I have been thinking about the past year. How we tried to drive across country after a HUGE snow storm. How we spent Zoe’s first holidays as a little family of three. This year was great being around family and we enjoyed every moment of the holiday season. I want to share a few things we loved about the past year. We spent most of the year in Minneapolis exploring and embracing the city life. Zoe learned to walk and talk. We grew as individuals and as a couple (there were a few trying moments), but we survived and we fell in love with Minneapolis. Okay so the winter was kind of long, we will admit that, but aside from that it was a pretty AWESOME experience. One of our favorite activities that we took advantage of was biking. Minneapolis is home to 200+ miles of biking trails and is a very bike friendly community. Living in the city it is an ideal mode of transportation and after surviving winter you want to spend A LOT of time outdoors. So we joined the bike club!
It all started with Tommy getting a new bike.

We figured this would be an adventure we could all share together as a family. We debated for awhile about how we would include Zoe in this family activity…bike seat in the front, in the back, or the infamous bike trailer. Ultimately in came down to safety and since we were biking in the city we figured it would be safest for Zoe to ride in the bike trailer.

My eyes were set on a vintage bike, lucky for me we were in a city with LOTS of options. We did a quick search on Craigslist and found the perfect bike. All that was left was getting our helmets (safety first). Once those arrived we were ready to ride!

Here are a few pictures from our biking adventures. We rode along the Mississippi, visited Dada at work, followed the bike path to Lake Calhoun, and ventured over to Nicollet Island.

Most of the time when we went for a ride this would happen…
As we rode around Minneapolis we couldn’t help but fall head over heels for the view!
We loved living downtown and how easy it was to get around (by foot, car, and bike).
We loved the history of the city.
We loved the architecture of ALL of the old buildings.
We loved living in an old warehouse.
We loved the nature that surrounded the city.
We loved all of the events and opportunities for fun!
2013 holds a lot of unforgettable moments. We are looking forward to what 2014 has in store for us as a family. We will continue our biking adventures here in California, but nothing beats a cruise along the Mississippi. Here’s to exploring our old neighborhood and getting to know it better as well as the people we share it with!
