Grey’s Birth Story for all to know:
Grey was due June 17th, but of course that day came and went. I had been walking all throughout my pregnancy due to gestational diabetes. Lucky for me that also meant I got to see Grey’s handsome face monthly and then almost weekly up until the end of my pregnancy. But let’s be honest I wanted him to be Earth side sooner rather than later, he had other plans. I went for my last appointment on Friday June 19th. The doctor checked and I was 3cm dilated. My doctor said if I don’t have him by Father’s Day she wanted to induce me so we scheduled my induction for Monday June 22nd. Also the night before my appointment my sister had gone into labor, so I left the doctors office and headed down to San Diego to wait for the arrival of my niece, Avery. Congratulations Ashley and Brady!!
I had been laboring on and off all week, but finally decided I was going to ignore it since I was going to be induced. Saturday night I was having some severe cramps around 12. I decided I was going to try to sleep. Around 2 the pain woke me up and I tried to go to the bathroom, that didn’t help. I laid back down to go back to sleep, but the pain kept coming and it felt like my hips were being pulled apart. By 2:30 I woke Tommy up and told him I think it’s time. I promised myself this time I would take a shower before I went to the hospital so that is what I did. The pain didn’t go away so I knew it was really time to call Laura to pick up Zoe. By 3:30 Zoe and Laura were headed back to her house and we grabbed our bags and headed to the hospital. Once we got there I could barely talk through the contractions and they were very close together. By now it is 4ish. We got checked in and the doctor on call came in and checked me, I was now 7 cm. He said, “we are going to have a baby today.” They quickly got me checked in and transferred down to Labor and Delivery. Once I was there they got my IV hooked up (way easier this time around, NO TEARS). They asked me about pain meds, I thought I was past the point of epidural and opted to not get one. Now the contractions were coming on really strong and lasting longer, almost bringing me to tears (ok, I might have cried a little, but Tommy was there to comfort me and tell me I can do it). It was just Tommy and I in the room which was kind of nice and peaceful. It was still dark out since it was some where around o’ dark thirty. I remember looking at the clock at 5:45 and thinking this could go on for hours. I was tired since I only got two hours of sleep and I just wanted a little break from the contractions, when all of a sudden I felt like I had to push. I told Tommy to tell them I have to push and to get the doctor. I wasn’t waiting for my doctor to get there. Luckily the doctor on call was just down stairs. Once he got there he suited up and I gave one big push, out came my water and Grey’s head. I waited for one more contraction and pushed the rest of Grey’s body out. Grey was born at 6:09 on Father’s Day. It all happened so quickly that I honestly couldn’t believe it. He’s the best Father’s Day gift I could have given Tommy.
I had to give a few jiggles and pats to get him to cry. He sounded like a little pterodactyl.
The doctor was awesome. I really liked him. He allowed the umbilical cord to stop pulsating before telling Tommy how to cut the cord, he even cracked a joke and told him to watch out for other little parts. 😉 I got all stitched up and that wasn’t as bad this time around.
We got to hang out in our delivery room for about 4 hours. We got to relax and watch the sun start to shine through our window. I got a chance to nurse and we took some pictures. Zoe got to meet her baby brother for the first time and gave him lots of kisses. We discovered baby Grey has the 2 sweetest dimples.
We had a few visitors while we were in the hospital. We didn’t stay very long, we got discharged Monday night. Lucky for us Baby Avery was able to come for a visit.
Oh and I got that steak dinner Dad!
On our way home!
We made it safe and sound!
