Birthday Past

In honor of Zoe’s birthday I want to share a little slice of her last birthday at her favorite place. I also want to share her answers to a quick interview.

Last year we took Zoe to Disneyland, but this time we planned a magical 1 night stay at a “castle”. Zoe was so excited about the hotel and spending the night somewhere other than home. We also planned a special character breakfast. We started our day on her favorite ride. Then we stopped into the Mad Hatter and picked up some Minnie Ears. IMG_0151IMG_0152

Then we headed over to California Adventure to check out their special event area in the back. One thing we love about Disney is there attention to detail. The Chinese New Year is in February and they went all out for the holiday. Also it is one of my favorite holidays to celebrate, maybe even more than the American New Year. So we got to experience Disney’s Chinese New Year, a special parade, paper cutting artist, photos with Minnie and Mickey in their Chinese outfits, calligraphy artists, arts and crafts, and of course FOOD. Zoe loved watching the parade. She got to see Mulan and Mushu. We sampled the pork bao and almond cookies. I got both Zoe and Grey’s name written in Chinese calligraphy. Before we left we made sure we wrote down our wish for the New Year. IMG_0119IMG_0117IMG_0121IMG_0138IMG_0124IMG_0150IMG_0148IMG_0146

February also brought some rain last year so we spent the evening watching cooking shows in the hotel. We thought about going back for the fireworks, but they ended up not having them due to the rain. In the morning we packed up and headed over to Paradise Pier hotel where we had breakfast reservations. IMG_0165IMG_0171IMG_0201IMG_0173IMG_0203IMG_0184IMG_0202

Before we headed home we rode the monorail in to jump in a submarine and dive into the Australian reef. After that we HAD TO get a churro ice cream sandwich. IMG_0200IMG_0198

It was her last birthday by herself, we had to go out with a bang. I know she probably won’t remember everything, but Tommy and I remember the experience and it’s a special memory for us. We are excited to celebrate her again this year with her brother, family and friends.
