Reading Rainbow

10/20/2012 Saturday was a beautiful day. It was pretty warm so we didn’t need too many layers. We headed out into the city to explore the library. We had walked past the library many times on our short visit in September. It is such a beautiful building amongst the brick and concrete. It shimmers as the sun reflects on the glass.

At the entrance of the children’s section

On this particular weekend they had a college group demonstrating some science experiments. Children could watch and participate in hands on activities. They even got to make bouncy balls! It was fun to observe the kids as they watched the experiments being preformed. I look forward to the day when Zoë can participate in these activities. After the experiments we headed over to the children’s section. They had a play area where Zoë was able to crawl around and explore. There foam blocks, mirrors, and toys. Zoë was naturally drawn to the mirror. She made us laugh as she would stare at herself and wave. We let her enjoy her play time as we took LOTS of pictures! Enjoy…

We sailed through the aisles of books.

Tommy couldn’t help himself, he found a few books he wanted to read (in the children’s section). There were so many books I spied that I want to read to Zoë. I found myself gravitating towards to multicultural books. I really want to immerse Zoë into other cultures and teach her about her heritage. I want her to be proud of her roots as well as knowledgeable of other cultures. I am hoping that by living in a city she will be exposed to many cultures and types of people. I look forward to falling into so many books with Zoë.

Books Fall Open, You Fall In

Reading is FUN! Momma Terry believed in reading. As an educator she encouraged reading as much as possible. I have so many of our childhood books (Ash I set some aside for you too). We were always surrounded by books…Ashley read more of them then I did. I do agree with my mom reading is such an important thing and I hope to read as much as possible to Zoë. I know Momma Terry would have read so many books to her. I can just imagine them cuddled up or rocking in our old rocking chair with a special book. They would have gone on so many adventures! One day I hope to take Zoë to her reading garden at Tovashal.
